Inspiring Opportunity
With a campus that spans more than 29 acres in southeast Detroit, the Samaritan Center is a resource unlike any other in our state. Across its four buildings, more than 80 nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, and small businesses have come together to meet the needs of residents in one of the city’s most impoverished neighborhoods.
Phase I of the Campaign was completed in December of 2025, as a group of community leaders worked with SER Metro-Detroit’s Board of Trustees to secure more than $2.1 million in support to stabilize operations and programming at the Samaritan Center.
Detroit’s east side has been among the most disadvantaged and under-resourced areas of the city, with median incomes and educational attainment among the lowest in the city. The Samaritan Center is a centrally located, easily accessible, one-stop resource where residents can access a host of community-based services.
Our Goal
Our mission is to create an innovative ecosystem that brings together community organizations, private, and public sectors, and philanthropic resources to support the residents of southeast Detroit.
Phase II-Transforming Samaritan's Campus
With a goal of $6.1 million, Phase II of the campaign will create a more dynamic, community-centered campus that encourages visitors to access an even wider range of programming across our more than 80 community partners.
Transformation Includes:
Facility Enhancements: Improve wayfinding and complete much needed structural repairs.
Drive to Sustainability: Increase the amount of rentable space available on the campus, supporting the Samaritan Center’s financial outlook and widening the types of programs and services that are available to community residents.
Service Hubs: Cluster tenants into hubs that create opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing amongst organizations.
