Bank of America Charitable Foundation awards $25k to Apprenticeship Readiness program

SER Metro-Detroit, Jobs for Progress, Inc. (SER), was awarded a $25,000 workforce and education grant from Bank of America Charitable Foundation to provide adults ages 18 years old and older with the academic and skills training in the construction field.

SER offers the training for this grant through the SER Bridges to Career Opportunities Program (BCO) which has received funding from the Detroit Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC) since 2016. The program contributes to the growing need for qualified workers in the skilled trades industry in the City of Detroit.  The BCO program is managed by and strengthens SER’s Center for Working Families Career Pathways Initiative.  We are proud to partner with Bank of America to connect the unemployed and underserved to the training and education needed to secure and retain high-quality jobs.

Since 2008, the SER Center for Working Families has provided financial literacy, employment services and access to public benefits and referral services to the community. In 2017, SER’s Center for Working Families and Bridges to Career Opportunities program serviced 604 individuals including 202 receiving financial services; 147 receiving employment and income supports services; and 123 job placements.

SER Metro-Detroit has a long-standing partnership with Bank of America to help provide services that promote financial stability in and around our community.  Bank of America’s investment in our organization will allow us to expand our reach and improve the quality of life for City of Detroit residents.
