SERCO provides career services and case management for jobseekers at two Detroit at Work Career Centers, which saw 100,000 visits during program year 2018-19. In the 2019-20 program year, SERCO is one of several provider partners implementing a system redesign of what used to be known as One-Stop Centers across the city. This workforce innovation is powered by Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation (DESC) with the support of the Mayor’s Workforce Development Board. The Northwest Activities Center location is co-operated with Goodwill Industries. The Southwest location is operated solely by SERCO.
Since first being awarded this contract on April 2015 by DESC, the SERCO career services team and staff have successfully implemented DESC’s vision, which aligns closely with SERCO’s mission to meet the needs of our customers through diversified services, and programs that connect to businesses and communities capable of contributing to the local region economic vitality. This program year, we are excited to bring new physical space designs, new employer relationships, expand community partnerships, and implement new ways of service delivery that enhance the customer experience.
SERCO also manages two satellite centers at the Detroit Reentry Center (formerly Ryan Facility) and Lawton Parole Office. SERCO provides job readiness services to returning citizens through a partnership with the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) that began in August 2014 through a $5M U.S. Department of Labor pilot program for justice-involved individuals. SERCO continues to participate in the MDOC Offender Success Contract for a third year as a subcontractor to DESC.
