Spotlight: Our 2018 Success Story

Cecilia Amoles, Supervisor, Shinola Detroit: Cecilia Amoles was unemployed when she first met SER’s Career Coach at Phoenix Academy. She began to participate in the SER Job Readiness & Placement Program at the Ford Resource & Engagement Center (FREC).  Ms. Amoles was assisted in updating her resume and was referred to various employers and hiring events.  She obtained full-time employment as a Housekeeper at Henry Ford Hospital in 2015.  Her husband was then deported to Mexico which led her to resign and leave the country. When Ms. Amoles came back, she sought job placement assistance again with SER.  She was hired through D-Diversified and after a few months was hired directly with Shinola Detroit in 2016. Ms. Amoles has been promoted twice at Shinola, from Artisan Artist to Line Leader in 2017 and to a Supervisor in 2018.  Ms. Amoles did not have any production or supervising experience but was given an opportunity and now she is self-sufficient.
